Kodak
had quite the surprise for the camera world today: the company announced that
it will be soon joining the Micro Four Thirds standard with a new mirrorless
camera called the S1. This is a great news, Kodak finally made the first MFT
camera, having previously manufactured by Panasonic with Olympus followed by
other brands such as Sony, Nikon, Pentax and Canon.
The
camera will reportedly contain a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor manufactured
by Sony, which means the camera should have pretty serious imaging capabilities.
Kodak S1 is equipped with a tilt LCD screen, hot shoe adapter, a dedicated
video recording button, customizable function buttons, and a built-in Wi-Fi and
APP system that will allow control of your camera via your mobile devices.

The
Kodak S1 is the first camera in a cooperative venture between Kodak and JK
Imaging. Because the S1 is a micro 4/3
camera, users will have an arsenal of lenses from which to choose.
Kodak and JK
Imaging are planning on releasing their own lenses as well – starting with 2
micro 4/3 zoom lenses. The double lens kit that will probably include the two
smaller zoom lenses will be available at a price of $599.
Kodak
S-1 comes equipped with a 16 Megapixel BSI CMOS 4/3'' sensor as well as a 3-inch
920k-dot articulated LCD monitor that allows you to capture the desired images
from any angle you want.
The new Kodak
S-1 is capable of capturing 1080p H.264 Full HD video footage at 30 frames per
second. The S-1 is priced competitively at $499 MSRP for the entry-level single
lens kit and $599 MSRP for a double lens kit and is perfect for the avid
photographer looking for a high performance model in a slim and compact design.
Although
Kodak has only recently made a MFT camera, but with a variety of features and
technologies offered on the Kodak S1, then you will get a camera with a unique
capability in the mirrorless camera catagory.
Cooperation between Kodak with JK Imaging is expected to create evolving in a
new direction, so the photography enthusiasts have a choice of a smart camera
with a more affordable price.
